MY SURPRISE BRIDAL SHOWER

When you know your bridal shower is going to be a surprise, it’s hard not to be skeptical of every invitation you receive during your wedding year. With my wedding date being in September, I was anticipating my shower being in the summer, so when I received an invitation to celebrate my aunt’s surprise 60th birthday party on June 24, 2023, I was immediately suspicious. But as time went on, some nonchalant mentions of the party, by family members, started to, unbeknownst to them, convince me otherwise. By the time Chris and I were driving to the party, I didn’t know what to think.

Sure enough, when we walked into Stella Trattoria & Bar in Blue Point, NY, I was greeted by family and friends with a big “Surprise!”

Months leading up to my shower, I was dropping some hints to my sister about the excitement I would have over a themed bridal shower. In keeping with the surprise element, I didn’t have a specific request. Little did I know, that sent my mom, sisters, and mother-in-law into a tailspin trying to figure out how to incorporate a theme into the already planned details. To say they nailed it would be an understatement.

The theme of my bridal shower was “Love is in the Air,” which is perfect for so many reasons. Not only does it incorporate the obvious, it plays perfectly into my love for perfume. I was so impressed by this idea; I couldn’t have thought of a better theme for myself.

All the decorations and details made the party so special. There was a balloon arch, perfume bottle centerpieces, a perfume bar, perfume-shaped cookies, canvas perfume paintings, teacup flowerpot favors, a wedding dress seating chart, a beautiful and delicious cake, date idea cards, rose gold pens, and so many fun games and prizes!

GAMES WE PLAYED:

  • Who has the Groom? (scratch-off game)
  • Why do we do that? (wedding customs/superstitions)
  • Wedding Candy Match (wedding phrases and candy names)
  • How Old were the Bride and Groom? (photo match)
  • What’s in the Bag? (letter/item match)
  • Pass the Bag (phrase/guest match at each table)
  • Household item poem (Bride matches items to phrases)

I’m sure there are many different variations of these games. Either way, they’re a lot of fun. Plus, who doesn’t want to win a prize at a bridal shower?

My bridal shower was a blast. I was surrounded by my family and friends, the décor was beautiful, the food was delicious, and I really felt the love. I can’t thank my mom, sisters, and mother-in-law enough for all the work they put into making the day so special, my bridesmaids for supporting me and helping set up the party, and all my guests for coming and showering me with so many generous gifts.

*Special thanks to Inflated with Happiness (balloon arch), Scentimentally Yours (perfume bar), and Momma Zinga (perfume-shaped cookies).
